21st July 2003 - UKDedicated LTD Expand Into New Datacentre

In line with continued growth and expansion, UKDedicated are pleased
to announce the provisioning of a new datacentre suite to further
enhance their wide range of solutions.

Global Switch is located at the heart of London's Docklands with prime
position to the LINX (London Internet Exchange) peering exchange and
Telehouse gateway locations. The building is physically located 30
seconds walk from Telehouse North and Telehouse East which house the
LINX.

The move of datacentre facility also sees the additional availability
of two additional gigabit ethernet links to Telehouse North and East,
providing unsurpassed connectivity directly to the core of the
Internet.

In order to provide an environment tailored to our customers needs,
UKDedicated will be performing a complete relocation of all equipment
from the existing datacentre, RedBus Meridian gate, to our new
facility near East India Docks, this is a physical move of less than
one mile.

Extensive time and care has been taken to carefully plan the whole
process in order that disruption to services is kept at an absolute
minimum. This has also provided us with an excellent opportunity to
further invest in and enhance our network to offer even greater
performance.

We have now opened a maintenance window for the above work to take place:

Movement of equipment is scheduled to begin after 0000hrs on Saturday
26th July 2003. Anticipated move-time is 4 hours, however each
individual customer should only experience up to approximately 60
minutes of interruption to service, not necessarily continuous.
Service should be considered at risk until 0600hrs Saturday 26th July.

Should there be any changes to the above details, we will inform all
customers at the earliest opportunity.

If customers have any questions regarding the above information,
please feel free to contact us via info@support.ukdedicated.com or
visit our Community Forums at http://www.communityforums.co.uk where
we will be opening discussion for additional information to be posted.

This will affect Dedicated server, colocation, web hosting and reseller customers based in the UK.

USA OPERATIONS ARE UNAFFECTED.

Servers that we operate that will be affected:

Monty
Drake
Darwin
Newton
Brunell

If you have any questions then please simply ask. We chose the Saturday morning window as that is when the least amount of traffic is done combined so it did seem the logical time to do the move.

During this period phones will be answered 24/7 From Friday Evening till Monday morning - Please only use in an emergency.

If you have any questions then please simply ask. We are very excited about this upgrade and the benefits it will bring.

Gosh, that is a lot of work through the night Craig, don't you have enough already?

But seriously, will the change be seamless for us, no IP changes or the like?

P.S. The new data centre is even nearer my mum's, give her a shout if you need a hand.

We will have staff from both Datacetners, Redbus and Global Switch as well as staff from Upstream providers so that this should be hopefully, hassel free. No IP changes are needed, we are simply going to reroute the IPS from Redbus > GS once it hits midnight.

We are also going to be moving these forums offsite in the next day or so, so that we can update as we are going along..

Do you have already an IP address from the datacenter, so I coud make a ping?

Andy

Because we will be migrating our existing IP's over with the equipment we currently do not.

If you notice any change at all (and it's unlikely), it'll be lower latency, as we're physically located a stones throw from Telehouse.

Could anyone please provide an IP to any server in the datacenter in question? I am trying to ping "globalswitch.com" but it doesn't work (timeout).

Bye the way, who are the main providers of BW in the new datacenter?

Regards,
Mac

The only thing that will change is the physical location of the servers.

Our upstream provider is staying the same. If anything, it will be lower due to the network upgrades that are taking place also.

For those watching it/have watched it. Globalswitch 1 was featured on tonights BBC 'Spooks' episode as a fictional location.

Those who saw it will have some idea of what the place looks like. Only exterior shots were featured.

I thought I recognised it! Were none of the "internal" shots real?

Andy

Only the shot of the reception area, including revolving door, security checkpoint and also a couple of the corridor shots.
