I am interested in your UKD-SC20 dedicated server and am comparing you with another hosting providor. Could you answer a couple of questions about the server for me?

1) What level of support is provided? Is it 24/7 via e-mail/ticket/forums? Does it include basic admin tasks if I need them?
2) If I have a major problem with the server, will you be able to assist?
3) Can you perform administration tasks for a paid fee if I am unable to do it?
4) If I have a problem at 4am on a bank holiday morning, can I get support/reboots? How are reboots made? Can I do it myself or do I have to contact you?
5) Do you replace failed hardware? What is your usual time response for that?
6) Do you charge immediately after I exceed my bandwidth? Is there a facility available to allow me to monitor the usage?
7) If I ordered now, how long would it take to get the server setup?
8) Do you offer a money back guarantee?

Thanks!

Hello, thank you for your questions, I shall answer these in order...

1) What level of support is provided? Is it 24/7 via e-mail/ticket/forums? Does it include basic admin tasks if I need them?

All our servers are, as standard, unmanaged. We can provide you with help compiling kernel security updates and we support the operations of cpanel (if you take cpanel). We're also always willing to help out by answering questions if you're really stuck, but as I say, the servers are actually unmanaged. We do offer a management service, please request a quote to find out more.

2) If I have a major problem with the server, will you be able to assist?

As above really, we can offer some help and advice, but the server is unmanaged.

3) Can you perform administration tasks for a paid fee if I am unable to do it?

Again, as above, please enquire about maintenance management.

4) If I have a problem at 4am on a bank holiday morning, can I get support/reboots? How are reboots made? Can I do it myself or do I have to contact you?

You can be provided with a login to a reboot panel which as a last resort can be used to power cycle your machine.

5) Do you replace failed hardware? What is your usual time response for that?

Yes, we keep most spare hardware on site for our common configurations. We do not offer a hardware replacement SLA, but if you ask existing customers they will tell you if the parts are on-site this will be done ASAP.

6) Do you charge immediately after I exceed my bandwidth? Is there a facility available to allow me to monitor the usage?

We will charge for any additional bandwidth at the end of the month. If using cPanel, this includes bandwidth monitoring software. You can also email our helpdesk for a reading of our MRTG monitoring of your switch port. In the future this will be available online.

7) If I ordered now, how long would it take to get the server setup?

This depends if we have the configuration you request available. If it is out of stock, then generally the lead time is aproximately 5-7 days.

8) Do you offer a money back guarantee?

No, we do not feel this is necessary.

If you need any more information feel free to ask here or by email to sales@ukdedicated.com

Ok, couple more questions:

1) Why do you charge a monthly fee for the hardware upgrades? Surely it only costs you once to buy - can't we just pay the fee one time? I would end up paying hundreds if I kept the upgrades for a long time.
2) How much is additional bandwidth per Gb?
3) Do you offer an SLA?
4) Do you have an IP I can ping?

1) The same principle applies to upgrades as it does to renting the base server, it's all hardware which is rented on a monthly basis - this allows people to upgrade specification with no large initial outlay (the main reason for renting). We can arrange a one-off fee if required, however this would also include a setup fee for the upgrade.

2) We have a base price of 99pence per GB unarranged over usage. In volumes pre-bought on a monthly basis in blocks bigger than 50GB, reductions can be arranged.

3) We offer 99.95% network and power availability.

4) Certainly, 217.158.187.116

also the hardware you have installed will be replaced if it malfunctions or breaks. Also I will point out Andy and Craig will attempt to contact you if like what happened to me last month my bandwidth usage went up to 40mbps on the port my server was located on, they attempted to contact me as if it would have continued I would have used up around a Terrabyte in bandwidth which would have cost me a lot.

It's worth reading through some of the other threads in this section to appreciate what Flump customers feel about the service generally. You'll find that most people are extremely happy!

I obviously don't know what you plan to do with the server, but are you sure you need a dedicated server? Take a look at Reseller Plan 3 here http://www.123reseller.co.uk/reseller/ If you are running a number of websites and need lots of bandwidth and space this may well be adequate - and all the maintenance and monitoring etc is dealt with by Flump. :) However if you want to run games servers etc (anything other than web hosting) then you do need a dedicated server.

Yes, apart from my and a few friends sites, I want to run a counter strike server some evenings. I currently do this with my US server but the pings are too high which is why I have looked at UK servers...but they are waaaay more expensive

It's worth emailing Flump with details of your requirements. They may be able to offer something that does what you want at a slightly better price (perhaps using an older box with less drive space etc for example). Give details of the exected bandwidth usage and number of simutaneous players etc. It doesn't hurt to ask!

Yes, good idea. I'll send them an e-mail, or they could post a reply here.

Since we are talking about the finer points of the service (such as what you need, what we can offer) We will move this to the helpdesk ticket that you have submitted.

Please note that all our dedicated servers come with the CPanel/WHM package free of charge.

If you have any further questions then please let us know,

Have a good Sunday,

Craig

the servers are more than capable of running cs very well with very low pings, just watch out if you are running more than one server the amount of ram and cpu they use up as with a high load the server will lag not only on cs but other services like hosting as well.

The network my current server is on went down 5 hours ago and hasn't come back up yet so I resent my message to you from my secondary account in case you didn't get it. I have only received 1 reply from you.
